As I opened up the session on Pro Tools i had to make sure that the sound system was going to come out of my speaker devise instead of the DMI monitor. After successfully completing that I listened to the track and tried to listen to what exactly needed to be configured so it would sound much better. I started off with the bass. I soloed the two bass guitars and paned them both left and right! in doing so I realised both bass’s sounded differently, one bass was louder than the other as if the microphone was setup closer than the other so i decided to leave it at that till i put on my head phones to see which side is quieter and which is louder. I moved on to the kick drum next soloing it out from the rest and noticed the kick drum was lacking in bass so using the EQ4 7-Band I pushed up the low frequencies gain by 5 dB. This time i was focusing not eh reverberation of the drums so selecting them all and connecting them to the same Aux channel I had a little play around with the reverb till I was happy with what was sounding.
For the Guitar overdubs I simply added another Aux channel spastically for the overdubs and raised the gain of the HMF and HF by 15 and 12, This took care of that muffling effect the guitars sounded like and that was it for them, no reverberation needed. but the sound was still greatly loud so I lowered the sounds a little by at least 3 to 4 dB.
With the main problems out of the way I started to mix the vocals, I first started trying to add a bit of delay at the end of the second chorus before the solo but failed to achieve what I wanted out of it so instead I copped and pasted the section “Beat it” and repeatedly but not just randomly, they had to be a curtain space apart or it would work well, so when I figure out the correct spacing I copied the first echoing effect and then pasted it 3 more times.
After that I focused on cutting all the gasps of air in the main vocals, I had to listen and cut at the same time which was a really demanding task throughout the whole piece but I achieved it finally I wanted to fix how dry the vocals sounded so I made a new mono track and within the mono track channel I duplicated the main vocals into it. Using the 7 Band EQ I put a High Pass Frequency to a point between 4.70 kHz and 5.15 kHz then I raised the the HF frequency to 6.65 and upped the gain by 10 dB. This had a nice effect to the vocals, I lowered the duplicated vocals so the original won’t be merged with it and it work great. This method of mixing the vocals was from the Philadelphia Media’s Channel on Youtube. After that I had a listen to the entire songs and cut a few things away that wasn’t needed then bounced it.
